Abstract

The article examines adaptive educational systems as a tool for developing individualized learning trajectories in higher education. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing need to move from standardized models of instruction to personalized learning approaches that consider students’ cognitive characteristics, motivation, self-regulation, and learning strategies.

The purpose of the research is to provide a theoretical justification and empirical verification of the effectiveness of adaptive digital learning environments in improving academic performance, learning motivation, student engagement, autonomy, and self-efficacy. Particular attention is paid to the psychological mechanisms underlying personalized learning, including the role of metacognitive strategies, self-regulated learning, and motivational factors in students’ interaction with adaptive systems. The study emphasizes that differences in prior knowledge, learning pace, and cognitive styles require flexible educational environments capable of dynamically adjusting educational content to individual learner profiles. The findings demonstrate that adaptive technologies contribute to the optimization of task complexity, enhancement of cognitive activity, strengthening of internal motivation, and development of responsibility for learning outcomes. The article also identifies pedagogical conditions that ensure the statistically significant effectiveness of adaptive systems in higher education practice. The obtained results may serve as a scientific basis for further development of personalized learning strategies and for evidence-based implementation of adaptive technologies in higher education institutions.
