The article provides a theoretical analysis of the crisis of emotional indifference of spouses as a psychological problem. Attention is focused on the lack of research devoted to the topic of the crisis of emotional indifference of spouses. The purpose of this article is a theoretical study of the crisis of emotional indifference of marriage partners. The study highlights the root causes of emotional indifference between spouses: inconsistency of behavior patterns with mutual expectations, loss of mutual attraction, in particular physical, intellectual-worldview, moral-psychological, intimate-sexual, material-financial, etc., emotional burnout of marriage partners; low level of interpersonal compatibility. Signs indicating the presence of a crisis of emotional indifference have been identified: the disappearance of romantic moods; growing differences in views and tension in relationships (conflicts, quarrels); increase in manifestations of negative emotions and negative states (aggression, apathy, asthenia); manifestations of intimate and sexual indifference (reduction of desires, passions); the appearance of a feeling of disappointment (doubts about the correctness of choosing a marriage partner), gray family life; a feeling of discrepancy between one's dreams, life plans and the results of their implementation; feeling of unfulfillment, disappointment; the presence of an adulterer; the feeling that the spouses have become strangers. It has been established that emotional indifference between marriage partners creates prerequisites for the suffering of spouses, the occurrence of adultery, as well as the dissolution of marriage unions. It was found that the consequences of emotional indifference can be psychological separation of partners, mutual misunderstanding of each other, which in the absence of mutual psychological support prompts partners to seek emotional solace in another social environment (adulterer, search for new social connections, excessive enthusiasm for work). Prospects for further scientific research are outlined, which consist in studying the features of the formation of psychological readiness of spouses to prevent and overcome the crisis of emotional indifference.
