Abstract

The article explores the psychological mechanisms of the influence of digital technologies on the involvement of young people in an active lifestyle in the conditions of a modern digitalized society. The relevance of the problem is due to the increase in the share of sedentary behavior among young people, which is associated with the active use of mobile devices, social networks and digital platforms, which change the structure of leisure and daily activity of the individual.

The study analyzes scientific approaches to understanding intrinsic and extrinsic motivation as key determinants of youth engagement in physical activity. It is established that intrinsic motivation is formed through personal interest, emotional satisfaction, and awareness of the value of physical activity, while extrinsic motivation is driven by social approval, digital rewards, and external regulation mechanisms.

Modern digital technologies, including fitness applications, wearable activity trackers, and online platforms, are identified as effective tools for increasing youth physical activity. They provide opportunities for self-monitoring, goal setting, real-time feedback, and progress visualization, which contributes to the development of self-regulation skills and responsible attitudes toward personal health.

Special attention is given to psychological mechanisms of digital influence, such as gamification, social comparison, virtual reward systems, and interactive user engagement. It is demonstrated that gamified elements in digital applications enhance emotional involvement, strengthen behavioral reinforcement, and support the regularity of physical activity. Social networks and online communities further increase motivation through social recognition, peer support, and group interaction.

It is emphasized that the effectiveness of digital technologies in promoting an active lifestyle depends on the level of digital literacy and self-regulation skills among young people. Excessive or uncontrolled use of digital environments may lead to reduced physical activity and the development of dependency behaviors, highlighting the need for balanced and conscious integration of digital tools.

Overall, digital technologies are shown to have significant potential in shaping youth motivation toward physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle, provided they are applied in a psychologically grounded and pedagogically appropriate manner within educational and social contexts.
